SPRING SPRUNG... THEN WENT TO SUMMER!!

Heidy-Ho, Blogging Buddies.  It has been busy lately which has kept me from the keyboard.

There isn't a lot to report... not surprising, I know.  But I did have a few photos I hope you can enjoy.

I found a couple of packets of bluebonnet seeds last fall.  I doubted they would be viable since I know they were at least 6 or 7 years old!!  However, I tossed them out into the front bed last fall where they would get plenty of sunshine and there was room for them to grow... if they did.  :)  I was absolutely surprised and happy to see a few little seedlings during our "snow" days in February!!!  They did survive and I ended up with two very healthy plants and several smaller (but blooming!) plants.  It was great to see them.

Interestingly enough, I was delighted to spot three little guys in the back yard pecking at the ground a few days after the blooms had opened up.  It was funny as they were also a beautiful blue!  These guys are Indigo Buntings, fully "bloomed out" in their breeding finery!

Now then... we did actually enjoy a colorful spring albeit short-lived.  A couple of quick shots I found while on my morning walks.

Finally, I want to leave you with a sign.  You know I watch for the things that make me laugh... and like to share them with you.  See if you can find the irony  in two of the panels below that are next to each other.  :)

I suppose since summer seems to have arrived in April this year, it's a good thing the good ol' Tire Garden is planted.  We'll see how it goes with the early heat.  Hope we get tomatoes & bell peppers!!

I hope you enjoyed our little photo post today.  Not exciting, I know... but something else to see!!

Until next post...

THE EAGLETS ARE HERE!!!

Heidy-Ho, Blogging Buddies!!

I am SOOO excited!  My poor "Golden Years" brain had completely neglected to snap to this year's Decorah Eagles nest.  Some of you may recall that they had built a new nest last year which did not have a camera so we were unable to monitor the laying/hatching/fledging of last year's eaglets.

I am SOOO happy to tell you they installed a camera over the summer and that we have eaglets!!  Here is the info for 2014:
2014 timeline: 1st egg laid 2/23, 2nd 2/26 and 3rd on 3/2. Hatch dates: 1st egg 4/2 9:22AM, 2nd egg 4/3, 3rd egg hatch in progress

You may take a peek at the nest and the babies by clicking here:  Decorah Eagles Nest 2014.  While I do not keep this up & running 24/7 at my house, I do admit to checking in on them frequently when I am spending time at my computer.  Looks like Daddy Eagle has been hunting quite a bit.  I think I can see 2 squirrel carcasses as well as a fish in the nest.  :)  It's easy now.  When those little guys get bigger, it's going to be a full-time job!

I was going to post some pictures I have taken recently but when I remembered this, I felt it was far more important!  The third egg is cracking but the eaglet is not yet out.  Should be soon!!  Stay tuned!

Until next post...
