What the heck happened? What do you mean, "January's Over?!?" Where did it go? What did I do? How did that happen?
In case you missed it, I have just figured out that nearly a month has passed without my touching base with you. That is nearly unforgivable and I ask you to go easy on me. Just remember that I will be allowed to withdraw from my IRA without penalty in less than a month and understand that means age is increasing in my world!!
The other problem is the lack of much of interest during the month of January. I suppose, with the exception that January 1st is New Year's Day, there isn't a whole lot to recommend January (with the exception of January birthdays including my best friend's!). It's usually a bit of a letdown after we have spent a full two months of reverie. The next big party (at least down here!) is Mardi Gras but that doesn't happen until February. If you have any suggestions of things that are interesting to do in January, I would be grateful to hear them!!
So... as the days rolled by, there was at least a little something different at Beauregard Regional Airport to pique my interest. (By the way, I would use the acronym to identify the airport in the future... but you can probably understand why I'll just refer to it as "the airport" when you determine what that acronym would spell. Sigh.)
There is a huge industry here in pine trees. I grew up with them everywhere! My folks' yard was full of them. As far as I knew, they just grew here naturally. I can assure you my family didn't do anything to them... like fertilizing. However, I suppose there is a commercial need for them to grow even more quickly than they do naturally so they can be harvested and used at the local paper mill. This is what led to the presence of the two cute little (although they were actually very large!) planes at the local airport. They were there to "crop-dust" the commercially growing pines with fertilizer. I never made it at an opportune time to chat with either of the pilots but I did catch both planes getting ready to fly out last Saturday morning. You can get a feel for the size of the aircraft based on the gentleman who is working beneath the wing of the white one in the picture below.
